“One Sky, one World -- Varennes 2017”

Kites for Peace and Environmental Protection

Sunday, October 8, 2017

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parc de la Commune, Varennes, on the South Shore of Montréal

“One Sky, one World - Varennes 2017”, the international kite event for peace and environmental protection returns to the magnificent Parc de la Commune in Varennes, bordering the Saint-Lawrence river, on October 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kites in all their forms take on the symbol of sharing through free flight and aerial ballets.

Throughout the world, thousands of people will give a universal show of solidarity by participating to a mass kite fly. Flying a kite is a significant act showing one’s accord about sentiments of peace, harmony and each individuals’ right to a joyful feeling of well-being. International cultural diversity is a testament to tolerance between people while the wind, a natural element, attests to the importance of a healthy environmental for everyone.

One Sky, One World saw the light in 1985 during the tentative peace talks between Russia and the United States regarding nuclear disarmament. Following the failure of such talks, people throughout the world participate in this rallying event on the second Sunday in October. Values such as hope, tolerance, joy and peace are conveyed by a simultaneous kite fly under the same sky around the world.

We invite the people of Varennes and the Greater Montreal region to come in large number to underline the importance of these stakes and to enrol a significant number of kites to be flown on the planetary registry. Come and fly your kite as a show of solidarity and sign the Amnesty International kite petition for Human Rights.

The general public is hereby invited to joyfully participate in this great flight with family and friends by bringing their chairs, favourite kites and picnics. The event will take place regardless of good or bad weather.

This event is organized by « Un ciel un monde – Varennes », a non-profit organization whose goal is to enrol Quebec’s participation in this vast movement for peace and environmental protection by using kites as a means of communication.
